Finnair long-haul A330 wide-body aircraft

Finnair - Airbus A330-300 - OH-LTP - John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) - April 2, 2010 1229 RT CRP

Finnair long-haul fleet modernisation is proceeding quickly. Finnair has focused in its scheduled traffic on services between Europe and Asia. When making its fleet decisions, Finnair has selected the types of aircraft that suit best the company's future route plans in its Asian expansion.
First class passenger comfort
The technically high level solutions of the new aircraft will increase passenger comfort significantly. In the new Airbus aircraft, passengers can send text messages and they can also choose from the aircraft's diverse entertainment and communications options.
The arrival of the new A330s will gradually renew the cabin appearance of entire Finnair fleet. The seat textiles in both business and economy class will take a step from the fleet's familiar blue towards a light, blue-grey tone.

The optimum aircraft for each route
The A330 and A340 aircraft are distinguished from each other by flying range and cargo carrying capacity. The A330 aircraft will be used on shorter long-haul routes, such as New York and Delhi, as well as on the Seoul and Nagoya routes, where cargo demand is lower.

finnair a340 business lie-flat seats

Real business class

Finnair airbus a340 intercontinental new business class lie-flat seats .The new seats provide more privacy for rest and work. Passengers can stretch out and lie flat – even if they are 2 metres/6 foot 7 in. tall.
The design of the seats also offers passengers more privacy and personal space. The seats have been arranged so that nearly 90 per cent of passengers have direct access to an aisle. The cabin also has more storage space for hand baggage and clothing.

Another benefit of the seat is that the back doesn’t tilt back into the space of the next passenger. Instead, it adjusts using an electric control into positions for work and rest, inside the passenger’s own personal space. In addition to the angle of the seatback, the seat height and the lumbar supports can also be adjusted.

There is storage space for laptop computers and magazines, and privacy is further increased by the small dividing walls between the seats. There are several adjustment options in the personal reading lamps. There is an individual electric outlet in the seat for laptop computers. Satellite phones are available for the use of passengers.

I find these planes comfortable. The complaint is lack of IFE video screens
and the lack of oven in galleys making the food offerings more spartan than those offerd on Airbuses. The E190 jungle jets have also enabled Finnair to expand the network in Europe offering good connections to Asia (new destinations like Geneva, Gdansk, Nuremberg, Bucharest, Krakow, Ljubljana, several overnight flights to Europe e.g. Paris, Amsterdam, Oslo, Copenhagen and Frankfurt starting next winter season. They have also enabled nonstop services to Manchester and increased services to Hamburg, Munich, Gothenburg, Warsaw) etc.
