The CIBC Advantage Card is a debit card for Canada resident.
Because the CIBC Advantage Card has a Visa logo on it, at first glance, you and retailers may confuse it with a Visa credit card. The Advantage Card is a debit card not a credit card. This means that you can pay for purchases using your own money withdrawn directly from your account. As retailers make the transition to chip technology, the way you use your debit card to make purchases may vary.
Shopping at stores in Canada
The CIBC Advantage Card is accepted at all Canadian stores where INTERAC® Direct Payment is accepted. When paying for a purchase with your CIBC Advantage Card, tell the cashier that you are paying by DEBIT.
Shopping online, by phone or by mail
The CIBC Advantage Card is accepted by most U.S. and international online, telephone and mail order retailers that accept Visa1 cards. Just select "Visa" as the payment method and follow the prompts to provide your card details.
Currently, CIBC Advantage Card acceptance in Canada for online, telephone and mail order purchases is limited to participating retailers. The number of these Canadian retailers that accept Visa Debit is expected to become more widespread in the coming months.
